Walk to Enjoy

Make a list of the things that can be done for recreation, enjoyment, and fun.  Next place a rating next to each assessing what you feel are the carbon impacts of each activity (low-medium-high, or 1-10 low to high).  You will undoubtedly find that walking (also known as hiking) will come out one of the lowest on your list.  So reframe your world by making walking a recreational activity.  Walk to ‘en-joy’, to enter the state of joy.  We have forgotten how to en-joy the simple things in life.

  • Walking with a friend is some of the highest quality time you can spend.
  • Walking for a date tells the other person that you are interested in being with them, not afraid of talking an quiet times, sensitive (yes, real men can be sensitive too, most women prefer it!) and appreciative of simple beauty and pleasure.
  • Hiking in the hills or in some other natural surrounding energizes the mind, body, emotions and soul (whether you believe in one or not matters little…).
  • Walking and hiking consume little or no fossil fuel.  Just choose your location and means of getting there with some discrimination.
  • All the time you spend walking and hiking is time not spent in some energy intensive pastime.
