Vote

If you are fortunate enough to live in a country that allows its citizens to elect their leaders, then use your vote to create change. In the periods leading up to elections, the priorities of candidates should be assessed.

  • Find out the position of the candidates on global warming at the League of Conservation Voters or any of their local branches.
  • If they are incumbents, find out their voting record on environmental issues. Candidates will often misstate their true positions through spin, pledges, outright misrepresentations.  Their voting record does not lie.
  • Let the candidates know, through their campaign committees and websites, that global warming will be the highest criteria for your vote. (There can be more than one issue ‘highest’ on your list.) Help form their positions and platforms.
  • When you vote DO make ecological issues highest on your priority list. We are talking about irreversible changes to the planet that will threaten life for millenia to come.
  • If there are no candidates at the local or state level with a good record on climate change and ecological issues, run for office yourself. These are dynamic times and skillful use of the media (and internet) helps level the playing field. Check our either How to Run for Office or How to run for Public Office.
  • If you are a candidate for public office, let us know and we will list your candidacy here on the ClimateCorps.
