Unplug

Unplug electronics from the wall when you’re not using them Even when turned off, things like hairdryers, cell phone chargers and televisions use energy. In fact, the energy used to keep display clocks lit and memory chips working accounts for 5 percent of total domestic energy consumption and spews 18 million tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year!

What’s more, due to a ‘convenience’ feature introduced many years ago, by which you save perhaps 15 seconds on the warmup time of your television, even when they appear to be turned off, televisions stay warm, consuming from 25-40% of their ‘on’ power.

And if you consider unplugging multiple things to inconvenient to do on a regular basis (it’s not once you’ve made that your habit) then plug them all into power strips, the kind with the lighted switches to remind you when they’ve been left on.
