Precycle
We’ve all heard of recycling, but precycling is a newer idea. Basically it means considering the life-cycle of what you buy, the amount and types of materials and energy that went into its manufacture, the amount of packaging, the length of useful life, the opportunities to recycle the item, its total impact on the planet from ‘cradle to grave.’ There appear to be many interpretations and uses of the word online. Precycling is only now developing its meaning in society.
To some it may be a revolutionary notion. To others it may be a hassle or inconvenience to have to think in this way. But to all of us, it is an important attitude to learn if we are to conserve our planet for future generations, especially now that we are over 6 billion strong and are rapidly reaching and passing the tipping points of sustainability in both terms of climate and general resource consumption. Here are some good links to websites dealing with Precycling.
