Meta
No, that’s not a misprint! It’s a prefix. We title a whole page ‘meta’ to make a point. And this page is perhaps the most important one in the whole ClimateCorps web. Take a look at the definition and connotations of the word ‘meta’ (originally from the Greek). Focus on the meaning ‘beyond’, and the notion that ‘meta-something’ is higher and more abstract ‘somethingness’. Take a look, for instance, at meta-knowledge, and meta-programming, but take it in a broader context than just computer programming.
For any of this website to make any difference at all, at some point you, the reader/visitor/observer, must rise up from the receptive position of reading or learning to the kinetic position of acting. For some people this is an easy transition, but for others it is not.
The time has long passed for ‘feel good’ phrases and wishing that someone would make things right. You are the person who can make things right. There’s no one more capable of making your reality more ‘right’ than you are. So rise into action, because you want to and you personally can make a difference.
Here is the ClimateCorps Meta-Action Plan.
- First, bookmark this site. Making it readily accessible is a good first step.
- Decide you will make the ClimateCorps website a regular feature of your week. Changing habits takes time. Saving the earth is not a ‘quickie’, one-time affair.
- Sit quietly and focus inside yourself. Clear your mind of distractions.
- Intention is powerful. Intend to make a difference. ‘In-tending’ is movement within. All exterior movement starts as intention.
- Have the deep intention to change your paradigm, change your habits.
- Have the deep intention to educate others to create positive change.
- To ‘real-ize’ is to make real. It is not an intellectual act. It is an act of your entire being. When you ‘realize’ something, you make it real.
- Realize that global warming is measurably affected by your actions or inactions.
- Realize that you are an effective voice and agent for change.
- Realize that you can speak or write to anyone and move them in the right direction… anyone.
- Realize that friends, family, strangers, elected officials, corporate executives, newspaper editors - all are people who want the same basic things, food, shelter, and security. Most will listen to you.
- Rid yourself of fear of rejection, ridicule or failure. When you are working for the good of all, and not a limited personal advantage, you become blameless and free of guilt, shame or remorse.
- Realize that you are effective, well-spoken, calm, and self-assured.
- Think of all those you know and list the people who are in the best position to create positive changes. You leverage your committment by ‘picking the low hanging fruit’. This is ‘meta-changing’.
- Decide how you can involve each person on the list in making a difference. For some it may be educating them. Others will be ready to act once shown the way.
- Intend to rise to your highest potential.
- Imagine your efforts rewarded with the knowledge that you have made a big difference.
- Return to this page whenever you need to refresh your ‘meta’.
Now, pick an action from one of the other tabs in this web. Either one you have not done before, or one you can do again. Plan it, initiate it, do it.
