Legislation - State Initiatives
As of this writing (October 6, 2007) two states, California and Hawaii, have stepped in and acted where the federal government of the United States has not. Legislative initiatives, supported by the grass-roots activism of individuals like you, have resulted in the passage of Global Warming Solutions Acts. California’s was passed in 2006, Hawaii’s in the 2007 legislative session. While the federal government remains unwilling or unable to enact appropriate legislation to deal with the crisis at hand, join with others in your state to demand that your state senators and representatives pass bills to inventory and limit greenhouse gas emissions. When you write and call them, reference the Global Warming Solutions Acts of these two states.
And take a look at the advertisement created by the NRDC and Environmental Defense which helped pass the bill in California. For very little expense, this ad can be revised and used in your state. Contact either one of these great groups and ask them for permission to use this advertisement, and help in customizing it to your state.
