Elevators
Here’s a simple but radical idea. The next time (and every time) you need to take an elevator to get where you are going, stop and think. At first, make a conscious choice to walk up one flight or walk down two. As you build stamina, increase the down threshhold, and maybe even the up number. Great exercise. Do you really need 2 tons of metal to transport you down a few flights of stairs? If we all walked down instead of riding it would be a massive savings of electricity and thus CO2.
Isn’t it ironic that people will pay lots of money for aerobics classes at which they will go up and down on stair stepping platforms (or worse yet buy them for home use), but they will never even think to use the stairs instead of the elevator. Don’t let ‘in a rush’ be your excuse. Slow down. Smell the roses. Take the stairs!
Gosh, if we could just stop and think more often about everything we do by habit, what an opportunity for positive change that might be…
