Dog Poop
So where, you may ask, does a lowly subject like dog poop fit into the global warming scheme of things. It’s not the poop, per se, its the way we deal with it. In many countries the density of dogs in urban environments has led to either laws or just common practice of ‘pooper scooping’, that is, carrying a plastic bag with you when walking your dog to (delicately put) ‘clean up after your dog’. In some localities, to NOT do so can involve a big fine, and the disapproval of neighbors, onlookers and passers by at the least.
Well, it’s all those plastic bags we’re aiming at here. So instead of doing the poop pickup with a plastic bag, why not keep a can with a firm fitting plastic lid (like a small coffee can) near the leash to take on dog walks. The poop can be flushed, which is really the safest thing to do since just about all other disposal methods bear some hazzard with them from pathogen dispersal or nutrient dispersal in waterways.
And while you’re at it, switch to re-usable cloth grocery bags instead of plastic ones, which otherwise just pile up and end up in the trash with or without doggie doo.
